Event details
The family of the complex Grassmann manifolds G_(n,k) with the canonical action of the algebraic torus, and therefore the compact torus T^n, is well known. The interest in the description of these actions is motivated by classical and modern problems in algebraic geometry, algebraic and equivariant topology, symplectic geometry and enumerative combinatorics. In the well known papers of Gel'fand-Serganova, Goresky-MacPherson, Kapranov, etc, the (algebraic torus)-equivariant topology of G_(n,k) is studied.
We study the action of the compact torus T^n on G_(n,k) by developing the methods of toric geometry and toric topology, and propose a method for the description of the orbit space G_(n,k)/T^n. In this talk we aim to present this method and demonstrate how it leads to an explicit description of the orbit spaces for specific examples.
The methods and approach we discuss represent the basics of the theory of (2l,q)-manifolds, which we have been developing recently.
The talk is based on joint papers with Victor M. Buchstaber.
