Event details

When using multilevel modelling to analyse clustered data, there may be reasons why the sizes of clusters are correlated with cluster-level random effects. If so, cluster size is called informative and conventional estimation of the multilevel model parameters may be biased. This talk will introduce the idea of informative cluster size, mentioning its relevance to marginal models as well as multilevel models. A novel within-cluster resampling approach to bias correction will be described.

Speaker information

Professor Chris Skinner, The London School of Economics and Political Sciences. Chris Skinner’s main research focus is on the statistical methodology of sample surveys and censuses. This includes developing methods to address questions relating to sampling design, estimation and analysis as well as aspects of data quality, such as missing data and measurement error. He is also interested in opportunities for using novel data sources, such as administrative data, in the context of both official statistics and the social sciences. He has pursued a line of research into statistical disclosure control, focussed on risk assessment, and is interested in connections between this field and recent multi-disciplinary developments in privacy, data protection and data linkage. He has a long-standing interest in applications of statistical modelling in the social sciences.
