Event details

A key question for those who are early in their research careers is how can they develop their research and their profile among the research community? In this talk I shall reflect on over 25 years of experience as a researcher, and on some of the successes and struggles that I have had along the way. In particular I shall focus on how two streams of research have developed: one, a contribution to an existing field; the other, breaking new ground and trying to lead the way. Not all was plain sailing ... nor is it still. We shall conclude with some key lessons which I wish I had known when I started out.

Speaker information

Professor Stewart Robinson, University of Loughborough. Stewart’s research focuses on simulation methods: discrete-event simulation, system dynamics and agent-based simulation. He carries out research on the practice of simulation with a particular interest in: the verification and validation of simulation models, conceptual modelling, output analysis, comparing simulation methods, modelling human decision-making in simulations, and using simulation as a facilitative tool.
