Title: String theory and the cosmological constant: have we learned something?

Abstract: I will first explain what the cosmological hierarchy problem
is and why it is considered so important. I will try to argue why
quantum gravity is needed to understand it. Then I will discuss in
very general and pedagogical terms whether we learned something about
this from string theory. (Spoiler alert: not much). I end by
describing some speculative ideas about the cc problem and dynamical
vacuum selection. The talk is targeted at a general audience of
theoretical physicists.
