Hi, I'm Leah Hannah Munjiru Njuguna and I studied PG Dip Actuarial Science within Mathematical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

University of Southampton is an international university well-known for its quality holistic nurturing of the being, due to this the graduates are recognised by employees worldwide.

Q: Why did you choose to study at Southampton?

University of Southampton is an international university well-known for its quality holistic nurturing of the being, due to this the graduates are recognised by employees worldwide.

Q: Are there lots of opportunities/places to socialise and relax here? (Clubs and societies)

In the University of Southampton there are a great number of clubs and societies where you get to meet different people and gain so much informal education.

Q: What is your opinion about the university's efforts to increase the flexibility of degree programmes and introduce more choice for personalised learning?

This will increase competency which will allow students to start classes anytime they like and work at their own pace and earn more credit for what they already know.

Q: What is your opinion of support available for students on campus in terms of pastoral support, health services and student safety?

The university has provided a lot of help to me thus far. I am involved in the university of Southampton catholic association. Our halls are well equipped with safety measures for example fire extinguishers and well labelled exits.

Q: Does the university help its students get ready for employment?

Yes, university of Southampton boosts the employability of students. They teach students on how to get a job through the career guidance for instance what makes a good resume, which is never simple, and inviting future employees to career fairs.

Q: The University helps students find placements and internships to complement their studies, is this a good thing?

This is an enormous boost to the student's employability. With the current employment climate successfully completing a degree programme is just part of the employment requirement. This needs to be coupled with work experience for successful employability. University placements and internships equip students with necessary work experience.

Q: What are the benefits of living in halls?

In comparison with the benefits of living in halls at my home country university, Moi University, at Southampton there is increased chance of academic success and also exciting events and activities which connect me to the heart of student life.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

My current future plan is to perform extremely well in my MSc Actuarial science, which will earn me exemptions from the faculty of Actuaries. I would love to be an actuary. I have always been interested in the financial vector moves and the insurance or pension vectors. I also intend to pursue a postgraduate qualification in management.
