Mathematical Sciences

Research centres

Mathematical Sciences hosts a number of specialist research and teaching centres. In some cases we benefit from input from colleagues in other Schools, such as Business School, Social and Political Science. Similarly, individual staff from Mathematical Sciences may contribute to research centres elsewhere in the University or the wider scientific community.

Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute, known as S3RI, is a school-level University Research Unit which is a centre for research on core statistical methodology for generic problems and substantive applications, particularly in the social sciences, engineering, health and medicine.

CORMSIS, a research centre jointly based in the Schools of Mathematical Sciences and the Business School, is one of the largest groups of Operational Research, Management Science, and Information Systems researchers in the UK.

The Southampton Theory Astrophysics and Gravity (STAG) Research Centre brings together three research groups with world-leading expertise on issues relating to fundamental physics and astronomy.

The Centre for Geometry, Topology, and Applications (CGTA) fosters cutting-edge collaborative research in geometry, topology and group theory and provides a focal point for applications in modern data science.
