Research Group: Pure Mathematics

Currently Active:

The Pure Mathematics Group at Southampton carries out research in a variety of topics in algebra and geometry. Areas of expertise include analytic and geometric methods in group theory, the representation theory and cohomology of groups, and algebraic topology.

Group Overview

There is a particular emphasis on the interplay of group theory with other areas of mathematics, in particular with low dimensional topology, geometric functional analysis, algebraic number theory, K-theory and algebraic geometry.

The group welcomes further applications for postgraduate study in any of its fields of interest and more information can be found in the Graduate School section. Enquiries concerning joint research grant applications, possible future research programmes and visits to the group are also welcome.

Key Facts

There are fourteen current PhD students.
