We organise a series of induction events at the start of the academic year to help students familiarise themselves and settle in.
You will meet with our Deputy Head of Mathematics (education) as well as with your programme coordinator who will explain the details of your individual programme, how we organise our teaching and learning and give you an outline of the layout of the mathematics building and the University facilities.
Specialist staff will introduce you to the library and IT services, and you can choose to have induction to the gym and other sports facilities.
Induction events also include a social side, making them an excellent opportunity to meet staff and fellow students.
Your personal tutor will meet you when you enrol; after that you will meet with him/her at least once every two weeks in the first year. You will also be welcomed by the student-led SUMS (Southampton University Mathematics Society) and SUAS (Southampton University Actuarial Society), who organise a range of study and social activities through the year.
There will also be plenty of things to do outside of the School in your first week, such as welcome events organised by your halls of residence.
The Southampton University Students' Union (SUSU) hosts Freshers’ Week at the start of each academic year. This is a chance to find out about the University's various clubs and societies, as well as to enjoy a range of entertainment.
