Shape of New BM5 Curriculum Emerges

Published: 9 May 2012

After consulting widely with subject, course and attachment coordinators and NHS partners across the region, the revalidation team now has a working version of the new BM5 curriculum.

Students starting the programme in October 2013 will notice a number of changes from the current curriculum, including:

  • Enhanced clinical contact in Year 2 with students undertaking a new Healthcare Assistant placement
  • The BMedSc project at the beginning of Year 3
  • Final Exams in January with a resit opportunity in June

The curriculum for this and the other BM programmes will be formally reviewed at an event on Friday 26th October which will be attended by representatives from the University, the NHS and other medical schools.

Following the review, the revalidation team  will continue to work closely with coordinators, subject leads and NHS partners to finalise the detail and implement the new curriculum.

The team will also revise the governance structures to reflect these changes and ensure representation of the Curricular Themes and the longitudinal thread of Science in the curriculum is more robust.
