Medicine moves to Blackboard

Published: 11 September 2013

The first phase of the migration from the Internal Medicine website, MEDIS, to the University’s Virtual Learning Environment is nearly complete.

From this year, students and teachers on the BM6 programme and on Year 1 of the BM5 and BM(EU), will find all their programme and module information on Blackboard and their learning resources on a newly developed repository, MedShare. The two postgraduate programmes, MSc Allergy and MSc Public Health, will also be found on Blackboard.

In addition to individual module websites, students and staff will be able to access separate websites for each of the three Themes - Communication, Diversity, and Teamworking, Leadership & Patient Safety - as well as for key Subjects.

Over the next 12 months, information and learning resources for Year 2 of the BM5 and BM(EU) programmes and BM4 Year 1 will move across. The final phase will see the migration of the remaining BM4, BM5 and BM(EU) resources and all non-educational content before MEDIS is decommissioned in September 2015.

A number of joint Blackboard/MedShare training sessions have been run over the summer for module leaders and other key teaching staff and support material will be available soon. Anyone wishing to attend a future training course, or wanting further information or support, should contact meded@southampton.ac.uk.
