Published: 4 May 2015

Winchester University held its annual Medical Education Research Forum on 1st May. As in previous years, MEDU members were invited to share their research findings at this gathering of some 50 participants who are allied with the Winchester MA in Medical Education.

Anja Timm presented on a programme of research entitled the “Hopes and Fears of new medical students”. Anja’s research in this area has been ongoing since she first joined the Faculty of Medicine in 2008.

Following her initial fieldwork, Anja has been working with different medical students undertaking their BMedSc projects to better understand applicants’ preparations and experiences. The presentation, entitled: “The cost of admissions: exploring applicants' perspectives of getting into medical school" described the development of the programme of research and disseminated Anja’s own findings as well as those of Greg Bailey, who now works as an F1 in Scotland.
