New online exhibition by Kathy Kendall

Published: 12 January 2017

Kathy Kendall has contributed an online exhibition to a newly launched and ground-breaking website entitled ‘After the Asylum’.

The website documents the complex and difficult history of psychiatric deinstitutionalisation in Canada through a rich mosaic of stories, artefacts and analyses . The web pages have been co-created by academics, community partners, students, activists, and people whose lives have intersected with de-institutionalisation in various ways.

Kathy’s exhibition, 'Educating Indian Head', is based on published research she undertook in her home province of Saskatchewan. It documents a bold but failed experiment in the small town of Indian Head during the 1950s to reduce stigma surrounding mental health.
