For the BM(EU) students the research project is the first module they undertake in Germany. Just like their counterparts on the BM5, they conducted their studies over a sixteen week period. Once their reports were submitted, 26 students presented their findings at the Year 3 Projects conference in Southampton video-transmitted from the Kassel School of Medicine. Both cohorts received the results for the research project module last week.

In 2017 the Research Project conference ran over two days in January (13-14). From Kassel School of Medicine, 26 BM(EU) students participated. They had two audiences: firstly at Kassel School of Medicine and secondly in the Lecture Theatre at Southampton General Hospital. At Southampton the conference runs across five parallel strands in order to cater for 200+ students. Those BM5 students who were scheduled to present in Lecture Theatre 1 were also able to present and converse with the Kassel audience.

The teleconferencing of contents from Kassel premiered in 2016. However, the first BM(EU) cohort only had 14 students and all students presented on one day.  After much preparation – conference planning and various testing sessions of the technology – the 2017 transmission proceeded once more without a glitch. The photos from the event show the BM(EU) students presenting and conversing with supervisors and Klinikum Kassel clinicians during the breaks.

Now that the module has concluded for the current Y3 cohort, we would like to take the opportunity to thank all those involved in organising and delivering the conference:
