On the 21st March 2017 the Primary Medical Care (PMC) Faculty Development programme started the year with two interactive teaching events.

The morning was a session on the Myers Briggs Type indicator, facilitated by Dr Sandy Miles. The feedback was excellent and the session really gave attendees an opportunity to be introduced to the theory of personality types and how this knowledge can be used in the teaching environment. To quote one attendee ‘Previous ‘personality typing’ etc., has seemed judgemental and inaccurate.  This provided insight and which rang very true!’ Lunch was laid on for delegates to enjoy and network.

The afternoon was equally inspiring with a session on Teaching Resilience to medical students by Dr Siobhan Lynch. This session allowed teachers to examine where they may be able to support students in their own self-care and many of the tools explored could also be applied to everyday General Practice. Again this received excellent feedback, such as ‘Will definitely use this to support colleagues, patients and students’.

This year we have also changed the way we book our courses following a comprehensive survey sent to all our GP teachers. We now request a refundable deposit of £35, of which a £5 administration charge will be retained, to attend any Staff (Faculty) Development for Primary Medical care to cover the delegate rate that we pay to secure the facilities.

All our courses are advertised on GP Staff Development page of the Medical Education website and on the Wessex GP Education website so take a look at how the Faculty of Medicine can support your own learning.
