On Monday 5 June, the Faculty of Medicine in conjunction with FutureLearn, welcomes participants to its first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), ‘Understanding Insulin’.

The course, developed by a large team including Sunhea Choi and Andy Pulman, aims to increase knowledge about insulin, covering safe prescribing, effective clinical use and how different insulins work.

The current spend on diabetes care by the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK is estimated to be £1.6 million pounds per hour. 80% of this is spent on managing diabetes complications, the risk of which can be significantly reduced through effective blood glucose control using insulin.

FutureLearn is owned by The Open University and offers a diverse selection of courses from leading universities and cultural institutions from around the world. They are accessible on mobile, tablet and desktop and delivered one step at a time, so that the course can fit around other commitments.
