The Personal Academic Tutor Briefing

On 3 November 2017 members of the Academic Unit of Medical Education delivered an update to seventy Personal Academic Tutors (PAT) and the launch of the Essential PAT Guide to FMED staff.

At the invitation of Karen Morrison, Associate Dean (Education and Student Experience), PATs gathered for:

  • an update on the new undergraduate curriculum, provided by Jane Wilkinson, the BM5 Programme Lead.
  • the launch of the Essential PAT Guide, which had been adapted for the specific FMED circumstances by the Senior Tutor Lead, Tessa Davies and Clare Polack.
  • a brief introduction to the University’s new Student Life service.
  • an introduction to the National Student Survey and a summary of FMED’s recent results provided by Anja Timm, the Faculty’s NSS lead.

The briefing concluded with a joint reception for PATs and Final Year students in the Lecture Theatre Foyer. This presented a rare opportunity to catch up with Final Year students who had returned to Southampton for a revision day on the Situational Judgment Test and the Prescribing Safety Assessment.

Following the success of the first PAT briefing, a re-run has been scheduled for 22 January 2018 to enable the remaining PATs to attend. If you would like to attend or require further detail, please contact meded@soton.ac.uk.
