Many people will still remember certain mnemonics from their schooldays, indeed memory aids such as these are said to date back to before the ancient Greeks.

In celebration of their longstanding use in anatomy education, Claire Smith from Brighton and Sussex Medical School and Scott Border from the Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences in Southampton, have recently published an article in Anatomical Sciences Education (ASE) entitled, ‘The Twelve Cranial Nerves of Christmas: Mnemonics, Rhyme, and Anatomy – Seeing the Lighter Side.’

ASE is published by Wiley Online Library and the latest issue can be read here.
