Preliminary observations of Interdisciplinary Near Peer Teaching (INPT) within neuroanatomical medical education

Published: 25 February 2021

A research study collaboration between the Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences (CLAS), the department of Psychology and Faculty of Medicine undergraduate students, has demonstrated the benefits of an INPT model when delivering practical based basic neuroanatomy content to psychology students.

Although the benefits of near peer teaching within higher education have been well established within medical education, there is less evidence available to support the potential benefits of this approach when applied within an interdisciplinary setting.

This short communication focuses on the impact on learning and the student experience when 3rd year medical students taught 2nd year psychology students at the University of Southampton.  The sessions were evaluated using three objective and subjective assays.
