Event details
Training for BM Teachers
This day is designed for all BM teachers, supervisors, and tutors. It will develop and extend your supervision skills.
Aims
To enhance the supervision of individuals and small groups
To explore and experience the strengths and challenges of different styles of supervision
To enable supervisors to deepen their engagement with supervisees
To broaden confidence and skills of participants in facilitating student learning from challenging and difficult situations
Method
The day will involve a participatory and interactive approach to learning. We will model techniques participants can use with students and supervisees to support, challenge and transform.
You will have an opportunity to experience giving and receiving supervision using models of direct and indirect supervision and a medical model of supervision in five realms (focusing on the illness, the patient, the doctor, the supervisor and the context).
We will illustrate a number of teaching styles, including working with pairs, triads, and small groups; looking at what further training or support you might find helpful and how to get this.
Facilitators
John Perry, Principal Clinical Teaching Fellow in Healthcare Communication
David Owen, Principal Clinical Teaching Fellow
