“We were delighted to receive our Athena SWAN Silver Award in 2015, recognising the dedication of our Self-Assessment Team and of colleagues across the Faculty. We are committed to making the Faculty of Medicine a supportive place to work for all, and we have set ourselves a challenging goal to achieve an Athena SWAN Gold Award by 2020. I have no doubt that we have the drive and determination to succeed, to ensure that the Faculty has an inclusive culture, and to enable all staff and students across all levels and disciplines to achieve their potential”

Early Career Researchers (ECR) Roadmap

We’ve constructed an interactive Career Roadmap to assist Early Career Researchers in identifying their preferred career path(s) and to raise awareness of the requirements to progress at each stage.

Success has no gender

Medicine at Southampton is fully committed to the Athena SWAN Charter that recognises a commitment to addressing gender inequalities. Our involvement in the Athena Swan project is to improve career progression for female academics in science, engineering and technology disciplines in higher education and research in Southampton Medicine. The project aims to tackle an uneven representation of women in science and as a result achieve a significant increase in the number of women recruited to top posts. Southampton Medicine was delighted to be awarded a Silver Athena SWAN award in April 2015 in recognition of our continued efforts to support the career aspirations of female medical scientists. Medicine has been actively engaged with Athena SWAN for a number of years both by supporting the University's Bronze applications and through STEM activities.
