The 2011 to 2012 academic year marks 40 years since the first cohort of Medicine students start their studies at the University of Southampton.
Since then we have trained thousands of doctors and scientists, and we lead innovative learning and discovery across the lifecourse from before birth to old age.
We now have more than 100 research groups, and strong research partnerships with charities, health, pharma, private enterprise, as well as academic institutions worldwide.
Pioneering discoveries have given us an international reputation across a broad range of fields include new cancer sciences, genetics, respiratory diseases and developmental science, which investigates human development from the womb through to later life.
Medicine has a thriving and successful enterprise agenda. Our discoveries have resulted in five spin-out companies, two of which have a market worth of around £75 million.
