Genomic medicine is a huge area with the potential to really benefit patients, and I wanted to be a part of this exciting and fast moving environment. I chose to study at Southampton because of their reputation for expertise, knowledge and experience in this field, and it was a fantastic experience with incredible staff who were supportive throughout my studies.

Genomic medicine is a huge area with the potential to really benefit patients, and I wanted to be a part of this exciting and fast moving environment. I chose to study at Southampton because of their reputation for expertise, knowledge and experience in this field, and it was a fantastic experience with incredible staff who were supportive throughout my studies.

Before studying at Southampton, I was involved with the 100,000 Genomes Project and wanted to develop my existing knowledge further, not only for this project but for the many genetic clinical trials that are growing within research. There is currently rapid growth in studies with a genetic focus and I have been able to use my new knowledge of the application of genomics in healthcare in my research roles and clinical trials.

I really enjoyed the variety of units on the course which allowed me to learn more about areas that I hadn’t previously considered. The flexibility of the course allowed me to study part time while I was working, with the immediate benefit that I could apply any knowledge gained to my workplace.

Completing a Masters has helped me gain the knowledge and confidence to propel me through my career. It has also boosted my professional writing ability, and given me skills that I can transfer to many other areas of my work. 

In the future I would like to work towards leading a clinical trial, perhaps returning to immunotherapy and cancer research again one day.
