Machine Learning and Big Data in Interventional Radiology

Dr Vigneswaran qualified in Medicine from Imperial College London with several distinctions and prizes. He received a first-class honours in Anatomy and Neuroscience at University College London (UCL) as part of his intercalated degree. His undergraduate research involved the neurophysiology of hand motor function and he received the Dean’s List prize for outstanding academic achievement. Following this, he was awarded the prestigious UCL 100 Grand Challenge PhD Studentship in 2010 where he completed his intercalated PhD on Mirror Neurons and Hand Motor Function at the UCL Institute of Neurology, Queens Square under the supervision of Professor Roger Lemon. This successful early academic experience led to his Academic Foundation Post at the Royal Free Hospital, London in 2015-2017. He commenced his Radiology training in the Wessex deanery in 2018 and Subspecialty Interventional Radiology training in 2020.

Dr Vigneswaran is currently an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Interventional Radiology, researching the management of Oesophageal Cancer with Machine Learning in Professor Tim Underwood’s laboratory at The Department of Cancer Sciences. He is also working on a number of Interventional Radiology projects under Dr Sachin Modi,. an Interventional Radiology Consultant at University Hospital Southampton.

Dr Vigneswaran's current research interests include machine learning, big data analysis and predictive markers of survival, specifically within interventional oncological radiological therapies. He has published several well cited research articles and has presented at numerous national and international meetings. His work has received additional grant funding from the Institute for Life Sciences.
