Brian Yuen is a Senior Medical Statistician for the School of Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education of the Faculty of Medicine.
Brian joined the Faculty of Medicine as a Medical Statistician in 2004. He has been actively involved in both teaching and research. He has collaborated with academic and clinical colleagues on many research projects within the School, Faculty and wider University. His expertise and areas of research interest include: data visualisation, large, longitudinal, and linked data analyses, and methods of improving learning experience. He is also passionate about data and reporting accuracy, creating links between results presentation and committed to improve readability of research papers. He is a co-applicant on many awarded research projects.
Brian is an experienced lecturer in Statistics and Research in medicine and teaches Undergraduate, Postgraduate taught and Postgraduate research students. He was a module lead and a deputy module lead for two undergraduate research modules. He is currently a module lead for Introduction to Statistics and SPSS within a Postgraduate taught programme. He is passionate about improving the learning experience on statistics concepts and application for his learners. His teaching styles tend to involve more visual and interactive contents along with lively delivery methods linking to the learners' everyday experience. He also believes being patient and supportive are the keys to motivate students to learn. He has been nominated and shortlisted for the Vice Chancellor's Teaching award 2020.
