Dr Aref Kyyaly is a research fellow at the University of Southampton within the faculty of medicine.

Aref has PhD in Biochemistry from Cairo University.

Aref was appointed as a lecturer at Aleppo 2009-2014 before joining University of Nottingham as a research associate within the faculty of Biological Sciences. In 2015, Aref joined the University of Southampton as a research fellow.

Aref worked on different projects within clinical and experimental sciences. He worked on gene cloning and protein expression in anaphylaxis. This project was funded by Qatar Foundation, Qatar.

Later, Aref worked on a project looking for epigenetic changes in asthma patients. This project was funded by NIH, USA

Currently, Aref working on micro RNAs changes in asthma patients and using micro RNAs as diagnostic biomarkers for asthma diagnosis and severity assessment. This project is funded by Asthma UK/Innovate UK.

BSc, Applied Chemistry, Aleppo University, 2000

HE Diploma, Analytical Chemistry, Aleppo University, 2001

MSc, Biochemistry, Cairo University, 2006

PhD, Biochemistry Cairo University, 2009

Research interests

I am interested in studying miRNAs changes in allergic diseases. My current focus is on asthma and I aim to utilize these molecules as a diagnostic markers for diagnosis and severity assessment of asthma.

Previously, I worked on gene cloning and protein expression in a study to clone three enzymes known to be expressed in anaphylaxis in microbial expression systems to establish a clinical diagnostic test for anaphylaxis.

Also, I worked on enrichment of yeast with bio-iron to cure and prevent iron deficiency anaemia.

Research Projects

Circulating miRNAs as a diagnostic test for asthma and to identify asthma severity risk.

This project is funded by Asthma UK/Innovate UK
