Research interests

Sedentary behaviour in hospital among older people is a major risk factor for acquiring hospital associated deconditioning. It is associated with adverse outcomes including functional decline, increased risk of institutionalisation and higher mortality. The Southampton Mobility Volunteer study (SoMoVe) explored the feasibility and acceptability of training hospital volunteers to encourage older inpatients to be physically active. This work was supported by the NIHR CLARHC Wessex and formed the basis of my PhD. SoMoVe - Dr Stephen Lim Vimeo video.

I am currently researching into community-based physical activity interventions for older adults to improve their activity levels and functional status. My other research interests include nutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty in older people.
