Dr Sarah El-Heis is an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Dermatology.

Sarah completed her undergraduate medical training in 2009 and started her medical training in General Medicine at Severn deanery. After gaining her MRCP, she moved to Southampton to start a locum appointed training post in Dermatology. Whilst in Southampton Sarah was introduced to the work done at the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit. She became interested in the NiPPeR study (Nutritional Intervention Preconception and During Pregnancy to Maintain Healthy Glucose Metabolism & Offspring Health) which she became heavily involved in after joining the Unit in 2015. The NiPPeR study is a multicentre, randomised control trial, examining the benefits of an enriched nutritional drink on glucose metabolism and health of the offspring. Sarah is particularly interested in the developmental origins of atopic eczema and her research is centred around this.

Sarah completed a Doctor of Medicine higher degree at the University of Southampton, under the supervision of Professor Keith Godfrey, Dr Sarah Crozier and Prof Eugene Healy. She has had the pleasure of presenting her research at national and international conferences and is proud to have been awarded the Martin Beare Paediatric Prize for best oral presentation at the 98th Annual Meeting of the British Association of Dermatologists, Edinburgh 2018, the University of Southampton Vice-Chancellor’s Award for International Engagement as part of the EpiGen Global Research Consortium and NiPPeR Trial, Oct 2017 and the Michael Arthur Prize for Best Published Research by a Clinical Academic Trainee, University of Southampton, June 2017.

Sarah's current role as an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Dermatology has allowed her to continue and expand on her research as well as continuing her clinical training in Dermatology.
