Hi, I'm Deb Marriage and I studied MSc Allergy 2010 within Medicine at the University of Southampton.

The MSc at Southampton was perfect, and consolidated all the experience I had gained over the previous 15 years working in paediatric allergy.'

Deb was working as Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist in Asthma and Allergy at Bristol Children's Hospital whilst studying part-time for her MSc.  She was funded by a number of sources including an RCN Margaret Parkinson scholarship and two awards from the Florence Nightingale Foundation.  She graduated in 2010 with Distinction and was also awarded the 'Holgate AAIR Award for Excellence in Allergy' prize.  'My undergraduate degree was in English Literature, and although I loved it, it had limited application to my work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and I felt I needed a relevant postgraduate degree.

I chose Southampton as it was the only University at the time to offer the MSc I wanted, but it has been a fantastic place to study and I would absolutely recommend it!  I liked the modular style of learning and was able to pick and choose modules of particular value to my career.  I enjoy studying and I found all of the modules to be both interesting and clinically useful.  My MSc has supported me in setting up a new GP referral nurse-led allergy clinic which is proving to be very popular.  I am now hoping to continue my studies and am currently exploring potential PhD options.'
