Research and Innovation Services

Research and Innovation Services (R&IS) is dedicated to helping our external partners, businesses, international organisations and academics, to access the support and expertise they need from within Medicine.

The role of R&IS staff includes proactively searching for ways to use the research and expertise of the Faculty for the benefit of society and to deliver improvements in health treatments. R&IS manages research collaboration with industry and the commercial exploitation of intellectual property and ideas. A sound University-Industry engagement strategy based on intellectual property exploitation is manifested by a regular Patent Review Panel, chaired by Professor Oreffo. A successful licensing outcome is made more likely by an active programme of industrial engagement and establishing sound and extensive networks in the relevant sectors. Many R&IS staff have a strong commercial background in many areas of science and bioscience and are able to exploit their capabilities to the benefit of the Faculty of Medicine and its partners. Through collaborating with academics in the Faculty of Medicine, partner organisations are able to gain access to government, charitable and EU research funding. These alliances are supported and guided by staff in Research and Innovation Services .
