As an international student, you will be warmly welcomed to the University. Our aim is to ensure that your experience throughout your time at Southampton is a positive and rewarding one. We encourage all new international postgraduates to register for our Welcome Programme, specifically designed for our international students.
Southampton is located on the south coast of England and so is a warmer part of the country. It is easy to travel by train to London and has good access to Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Southampton airport has daily flights to UK cities and European cities such as Paris and Amsterdam. The city is well connected to transport links. The hospital is 30 minutes from Southampton International Airport, by car and 15 minutes from the Southampton Central Train Station, which is on the main line to London Waterloo (approximately 1 hour 10 minutes). It is fifteen miles to the historic city of Winchester and the New Forest as well as being close to the Solent for water sports. Southampton is a pleasant city with good sporting facilities, cinemas, theatres and shopping centres. All overseas students are guaranteed accommodation in halls of residence.
Through our free ‘Meet and Greet' service, we arrange to meet new international students from London Heathrow Airport on certain dates before the beginning of the academic year. Our representatives will be there to greet you and transport you directly to the University, in time for the Welcome Programme.
At the end of September we run a comprehensive International Students' Induction Programme. This introduces you to the University, providing a range of information and support on practical issues, from immigration to accommodation, and an opportunity to meet with fellow students.
