Lymphoma researchers are Team of the Year at hospital awards

A team of cancer scientists working for Cancer Research UK and the University's Cancer Sciences division were last night named Research Team of the Year at University Hospital Southampton's Hospital Heroes awards ceremony.

Hospital Heroes celebrates inspirational members of staff working in Southampton's hospital trust. The research and development awards recognise the contribution made by teams and individuals to the joint research initiatives between the University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

The lymphoma research team, led by Dr Andrew Davies , was nominated for its national and international recognition. Their portfolio covers intensive first-in-man phase one trials to international phase three practice-changing trials. Three hundred and nineteen patients have been recruited over five years with increasing numbers each year, one of the highest figures in the UK for this tumour type. Forty-eight patients have entered phase one, sixty-eight took part in commercial trials and two hundred and forty-three patients have entered National Institute for Health Research portfolio studies. All portfolio studies are recruiting to time and target and often exceed this. The team have been world-leading recruiters to a number of early phase commercial studies of novel agents. Their portfolio also supports an extensive translational research programme in lymphoma biology and therapeutics with grants totalling over £3m per annum.

Congratulations to Dr Davies and the Lymphoma Team.
