Southampton medical student wins Royal College of Surgeons prize for the best research and methodology
Bart van Herwijnen, a fourth year student in the Bone and Joint Research Group supervised by Dr Janos Kanczler and Professor Richard Oreffo won the 'Royal College of Surgeons prize for the best research and methodology' on Saturday.
The prize, presented at the National Undergraduate and Foundation year Surgical Conference held in London, was given for his work on bone induction using endothelial cells and an innovative in vitro organotypic culture entitled: Endothelial Cell induction of osteogenesis in embryonic chick femurs using in vitro organotypic culture.
Another Southampton student, Hashim Syed, won the 'Doctors Academy prize for the best oral presentation'.
