In aid of Autism Hampshire, members of the Bone and Joint Research Group took a break from the lab this month to lend a hand with gardening and decorating at Anglesey Lodge.
Anglesey Lodge in Gosport is operated by Autism Hampshire as a day centre, offering places for adults from the five local residential homes and outside of the Society. The Lodge houses a wide range of facilities and staff work closely with each individual to provide self-directed activity programmes in a positive atmosphere, aimed at developing important life skills.
With contributions from staff at the Institute of Developmental Sciences, the Bone and Joint Research Group organised a successful cake and book sale to raise a total of £174.18 for Autism Hampshire. Volunteers then travelled to Anglesey lodge to provide help tending the large outside grounds and with painting and decorating within the building. Despite varying degrees of skill and experience, the group successfully gained one point for mankind against weeds and peeling paint by the end of the day!
The Bone and Joint Research Group would like to thank Autism Hampshire and all working at Anglesey Lodge for having us for the day and everyone who kindly donated to the cake and book sale.
