Expertscape Ranks Professor Cyrus Cooper amongst World’s Top Doctors and Hospitals in Hip Fractures

Leading hip fracture experts and Institutions have been identified and ranked using objective, data-driven healthcare tool.

Amongst the individual experts and institutions demonstrating particular expertise in hip fractures, Expertscape would like to congratulate Professor Cyrus Cooper for his pre-eminent contributions to its understanding and treatment.

Professor Cooper has been researching osteoporosis and hip fracture prevention for 30 years here at the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit, and has been the recipient of several national and international awards for this research (Duchess of Cornwall Award 2009; Heberden Medal of the British Society for Rheumatology 2011; Medal of Achievement, International Osteoporosis Foundation 2012 and Pierre Delmas Award 2014). The most recent was the major European award for osteoporosis research. As Director of the LEU, Cyrus leads a team of around 75 clinical and non-clinical scientists, and they publish around 100 papers a year. Their grant income of £12.8m supplements the MRC direct support of £14.4m every five years. The unit contributed three impact case studies for the Faculty of Medicine to the ongoing REF.

Professor Cooper commented “This is wonderful recognition of the efforts of our whole team here at the MRC LEU and testimony to the strong integration of our unit with the University of Southampton and the University Hospitals Southampton NHS Trust.”
