Footrot Vaccine Grant

Previous Jack Wills Young Brit Award winner, Alex Jackson, a post graduate student in our Clinical and Experimental Sciences academic unit, has been awarded funding by the Perry Foundation.
This is a highly competitive award presented to post graduate students who are doing projects which have definable benefit to UK agriculture.
Alex's research benefits the UK agricultural industry as she is researching a new vaccine for Footrot - a disease causing lameness in sheep and other ruminants.
The current vaccine was developed in the 1980s and is no longer fit for purpose.

The award includes an £18,000 grant to cover a stipend for the remaining 18 months of my PhD, as she was previously a self-funded student.
Alexandra completed a degree in Biomedical Science at Bristol before moving to the University of Southampton to do a PhD specialising in Molecular Microbiology.
