New NIHR senior investigators in the Faculty

Two professors from the Faculty of Medicine have been awarded NIHR senior investigator (SI) status.
Research lead for critical care with the Southampton NIHR BRC, Professor Mike Grocott was awarded for his research work in critical care perioperative medicine, and his research into the physiology of extreme environments, such as the Xtreme Everest project. He said: "This award is a wonderful recognition of the great work of the perioperative, critical care and integrative physiology research teams in Southampton."
Professor Rob Read, NIHR Southampton BRC director, was appointed for his research in infectious diseases and, in particular, human challenge models for viruses. hE SAID: "I am really delighted to receive this honour, but really I would like to acknowledge all the help and support from my colleagues and the institutions within the Trust and University."
They were awarded the status alongside Professor Alison Richardson from Health Sciences who was awarded SI status for research into cancer and palliative care.
NIHR SIs
are fundamental to the Faculty and include some of the country's most prominent and prestigious researchers.
They join SI Professors Ratko Djukanovic, Keith Godfrey, Andrew Lotery and John Primrose in Southampton.
