Southampton Professor recognised for contribution to fields of genomics and biomedicine

A Southampton Professor has been made a Senior Fellow of the PHG Foundation.

Anneke Lucassen, Professor of Clinical Genetics at the University of Southampton, received the award in recognition of her significant professional contributions to fields closely related to the Foundation’s own policy work around genomics and biomedicine.

The PHG Foundation is a non-profit think tank with a special focus on how genomics and other emerging health technologies can provide more effective, personalised healthcare and deliver improvements in health for patients and citizens.

Professor Lucassen said: “I am delighted to become a Senior Fellow of the PHG Foundation and honoured to be in such distinguished company. I have very much enjoyed my collaboration with the Foundation over the years and look forward to building on this through the Fellowship.” 

Professor Lucassen receives the Fellowship alongside Professor Tim Aitman, Director of the Centre for Genomics and Experimental Medicine, University of Edinburgh; Professor Bartha Maria Knoppers, Director of the Centre for Genomics and Policy, McGill University; Professor Dennis Lo, Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong; Dr Eric Meslin, President and CEO,  Council of Canadian Academies and Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed, Director of the Wolfson Centre for Personalised Medicine, University of Liverpool.

PHG Foundation Director Dr Mark Kroese said: “Our new Senior Fellows are distinguished experts in different disciplines who have generously shared their time and expertise over the years to support our own efforts to make good science deliver better healthcare, faster. We want to recognise their achievements and are very proud that they have accepted to undertake this role with the PHG Foundation.”
