Illustrative examples of scientific impact in Malawi leading to an open discussion about how Southampton based investigators could take their work to Africa.

Speaker information

Professor Stephen Gordon,Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine,Stephen Gordon will use examples from research in pneumococcal diseases, lung macrophage biology and household air pollution research to show how Wellcome Trust, MRC and DfiD funding can link UK and Malawian investigators. Stephen worked in Malawi as a WT Fellow in 1997-99 and 2001-05 and is returning to Malawi in July 2015 as the new Director of the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Programme, a Major Overseas Programme of the Wellcome Trust. This visit aims to open a discussion that might include clinical and basic scientists in both infectious diseases, non-communicable disease and public health based disciplines.
