Dr Kate Glyn-Owen is a postgraduate research student in the School of Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education. She is an NIHR CLAHRC Wessex Research Fellow.

Kate gained her undergraduate degree in Biology and then spent several years working in the private sector. She left to volunteer with a NGO in Tanzania, working with local communities and providing environmental data for the government. Kate returned to the UK to study medicine and qualified in 2007. She completed her foundation training in Wessex and is now a Specialty Registrar in Public Health. She is passionate about improving health and reducing health inequalities.

Kate has always had a strong academic focus. She undertook Quality Improvement projects whilst working as a junior doctor and her MSc dissertation looked at the association between marriage status and mortality in the Caerphilly Cohort of men.

Kate is now taking time out of her public health training in order to complete a Doctorate of Medicine degree. Her area of interest is the interaction between alcohol and obesity on the risk of liver disease.
