Flexible study (part-time study)

It is possible to study most postgraduate programmes offered by the Faculty of Medicine as a part-time student. As a part-time student you will have access to the same facilities, teaching and training programmes as your full-time counterparts and you are subject to the same regulations and monitoring procedures. However, the timings are different and account is taken of the longer time span that your studies might cover.

Postgraduate research opportunities

You can study for an MPhil/PhD on a part-time basis alongside employment within or outside the University or the NHS. We also offer the flexibility to move between full-time and part-time study if your circumstances change after you have started your degree programme.

We recommend that students who are considering studying for a PhD alongside their employment discuss the implications of such a training commitment with their employer. You will need a clear commitment from your employer to support your studies and will also need to negotiate time to complete your studies.
