CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

(clinical academic trainees, postgraduate research students and postdoctoral researchers)

Call for abstracts:

Postdoctoral researchers, clinical academic trainees and postgraduate students are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract which must include a short lay summary using the template on the side of this page and following the guidelines below.

Abstracts will be selected for oral or poster presentations by the conference committee. Individuals will be notified of the nature of their presentation when the selection process has been completed.

General Guidelines:

• Only research undertaken within the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton and/or Wessex Training Region, should be submitted. Please specify which group you belong to by completing the template.
• Abstracts MUST be submitted on the Abstract Template (see Useful downloads)
• Abstracts should be prepared using 9 point Lucinda Sans font.
• Abstracts should consist of two sections:
  • A lay statement clearly describing your research to a non-scientist
    (150 words maximum)
  • A scientific abstract providing a detailed summary of your work
    (250 words maximum)
• Abstracts not conforming to these guidelines will not be considered for selection
• Only work undertaken in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton and/or Wessex Training Region will be eligible for prizes.
• Senior researchers who are principal investigators in their own right will not be considered for oral presentation.
• Please refer to the ‘hints and tips' document provided for detailed advice on completing the abstract template.

Prizes:

Prizes of £200 will be provided for best oral and poster presentations.

Intellectual Property issues:

Please be aware that this conference is an open-meeting. As such, information that may form part of future patent applications or commercially-sensitive data should not be included in your abstract submission. Please ensure that you have permission from your supervisor before submitting your abstract.

Abstract Submission:

Abstracts must be submitted electronically.  The closing date for abstract submission is Monday 10th March 2014
