A prize of £250 to be awarded to applicants (postgraduate research students, clinical academic trainees and postdocs) within the Faculty who produced the highest quality of published original research in the Clinical Sciences

Submitted papers will be assessed by an independent panel of senior academics. Consideration will be made of the significance of the work within the specific field of study, development and application of methodological and analytical techniques. Impact factor and citations will not be considered as part of the judging process.

The winner of the Prize will be expected to make a short (20 minute) oral presentation on their paper and attend the Prize Award Ceremony at the Faculty Research Conference on Wednesday 12 June 2013.
Application criteria:

The prize will be awarded on the basis of one paper only, for which the applicant was first author or played a major role, published in the field of Clinical Medicine.

Postgraduate research students must be/have been registered within the Faculty of Medicine for their research degree. Visiting students are not eligible to apply.

Postdoctoral staff and Clinical Lecturers must be employed by the Faculty of Medicine.

Clinical academic trainees must hold an honorary contract with the Faculty of Medicine.

Papers should have a publication date or acceptance letter dated between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2012.

The paper must be based on work carried out during the course of the studentship/training period/employment.

The Prize is complementary to the Wessex Medical Research Prize for Postgraduate Research in Biomedical Sciences; the Postdoctoral Researcher Prize and the Clinical Academic Trainee Prize. Applicants may submit only one paper and in ONE prize category only. Papers will not be considered for more than one category.
A scanned copy
of the paper should be submitted, together with proof of publication for papers in press or accepted for publication.
A half page
summary explaining the research and your contribution to the paper is required.
A half page supporting statement
from the Supervisor is required. This should indicate the contribution of the applicant in the following 3 categories: conception and planning; execution and data collection; analysis/writing (applications will not be considered without this statement)
