Mentoring

Mentoring

What is my career plan?

What do I need to do to get a promotion?

How can I balance work with family life?

Who can I talk to confidentially?

These are just a few of the questions that mentoring can help you explore. Funding bodies are also increasingly placing value on active mentoring schemes.

Within Medicine we aim to provide all staff and postgraduate students with access to a mentor, who will act as an independent source of career advice and support.

Training is available for both mentors and mentees.

We currently help facilitate four different types of mentoring:

Long term mentoring - where you have a number of meetings with the same mentor over a period of time.

One stop mentoring - if you have a specific need you can select a mentor with experience in that specialist area to meet with once (or more if you wish!)

Mentoring workshops - an informal discussion around a particular topic, e.g. life work balance, with members of staff with experience in this area.

Peer mentoring groups - a chance to explore a common area of interest with a group of like-minded people, for example, giving oral presentations.
