Ethics and Law in Medicine and Society

This multidisciplinary bioethics research theme explores a range of ethical and legal aspects of developments in medicine and their integration into society. The theme combines research, research led teaching and provides ethics support to students, health professionals and researchers.

The theme harnesses the expertise from a wide range of different academic disciplines including social science, philosophy and law. We use our collective experience and research outcomes to inform and involve the wider community.  Research and teaching is also directed towards the development of national policy and guidelines which improve clinical practice as well as public engagement in the issues which impact on health in society.

Details of current research can be found on the Clinical Ethics and Law web page .

Ethical and legal issues are pertinent in all areas of medicine but particularly so in those where rapid technological advances have meant large changes in understanding and practice in a short time. For this reason we have particular interest in genetics and genomics and details of current research can be found the Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine research theme.  Researchers in this theme, and closely linked activities are listed here
