Imaging and Microscopy Centre

The Imaging facility (IMC) is the core facility for life-science imaging and flow cytometry at the principle Highfield campus at University of Southampton.

The facility houses both the Imaging and Microscopy Centre and the Advanced Photonics labs.

Together, we offer a wide range of labelled and label-free imaging methods including Confocal Microscopy, CARS Raman spectroscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy, Continuous wave and multiphoton Light sheet microscopy, Widefield microscopy, histology microscopy, live imaging and DIC.  We also offer flow cytometry.

We cater for a broad range of research requirements, from internal university users which include those from Biological Sciences, Medicine, Health Sciences, The National Oceanographic Centre, Engineering, Optoelectronics and Hybrid Biodevices. We also welcome users from industry and other institutions.

Our main facility is a large suite of air conditioned rooms purpose-built and equipped for advanced imaging in the new Life Sciences Building 85, however we also have facility equipment and staff equipment located at University Hospital Southampton.

The IMC is provided with a fully-featured prep room which is equipped with tissue culture equipment, specimen storage solutions and histology prep equipment.

We provide comprehensive infrastructure for booking equipment, big-data handling, image analysis, training and providing quotations and assistance for grant applications.
