Geraldine Clough

Professor Geraldine Clough was appointed Professor of Vacular Physiology in 2007. She studied Physiology at University College London where she also completed her PhD on the mechanical and transport properties of the microvasculature in 1997. She held academic positions in the University of Oxford and at St Mary’s Hopsital Medical School, Imperial College London before moving to the University of Southampton in 1996.

Her research focuses on the life course determinants of microvascular dysfunction associated with common chronic non communicable diseases. Professor Clough’s group comprises basic biomedical scientists, clinicians and engineers, and has strong links with industry. The group conducts mechanistic, functional and therapeutic investigations in in vivo preclinical models of vascular disease, isolated vascular tissues and cells, and in healthy humans and patient cohorts. Potential students, post-doctoral scientists or clinical scientists who are interested in joining her group are encouraged to contact Professor Clough.

Professor Clough has held external positions within learned societies, as member of Council of the Physiological Society, Senior Editor of the Journal of Physiology, member of the Executive Committee of the Journal of Physiology, President of the British Microcirculation Society, member of the European Society of Microcirculation Executive and Awards panel. She was a Visiting Professor at Southern University China (2008-2011).
