Alessandro Soloperto

Alessandro worked in MiNaTher for 7 months, investigating on the chance to stimulate genetically modified neuron cultures through ultrasound waves. The mouse neuron cultures used for this project have been engineered for expressing a bacterial stretch activated channel in order to enhance their sensitivity to mechanical stimuli. During the past months, Alessandro has developed and fully characterized an ultrasound delivery system for in vitro application, collecting important preliminary results regarding the effect of ultrasound on 2d neuron cultures at different frequency and setting.

In the next months, Alessandro will finalize the experimental conditions defined during his time at MiNaTher in Southampton, aiming to write at least two independent manuscripts, regarding I) the synergic effect of ultrasound and stretch activated channels, and II) the engineering process of building the ultrasound delivery system.
