Dr Ying Wang (王颖) is a Lecturer in Applied Linguistics (Global Englishes) in Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton.
It is my hope that my study on Chinese English as a lingua franca (ChELF) from the perspective of language ideologies would “sharpen” the framework of English as a lingua franca (ELF) by addressing the superdiversity embedded in ELF and Global Englishes.
I joined the staff in Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton in 2015, after I worked as a lecturer in Applied Linguistics in China for two years. I received the doctoral degree in 2012 with a research project, which explored Chinese speakers’ perceptions of their own way of using English in intercultural communication.
I worked as a programme coordinator on the organising committee of the Eighth International Conference of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF8) held in Beijing, 25-27 August 2015.
I am currently collaborating with colleagues from Fudan University in China on English teaching programmes which incorporates the concepts of Global Englishes and Chinese English as a Lingua Franca (ChELF) across different levels of education in China.
I have recently published a monograph on Language ideologies in the Chinese context with De Gruyter Mouton.
