Modern Languages welcomes new Chair in Applied Linguistics

Professor Roumyana Slabakova

We are very pleased to announce the arrival of Professor Roumyana Slabakova who joins Modern Languages as a new Chair in Applied Linguistics.

Professor Slabakova’s research and teaching expertise focuses on syntax, pragmatics, and the second language acquisition process. In particular, she uses online and offline psycholinguistic methodologies to investigate issues relating to bilingual and multilingual grammar.

Before coming to Southampton, Professor Slabakova taught and conducted research at the University of Iowa, USA. Her work has been widely published, appearing in journals including Studies in Second Language Acquisition, Second Language Research, Language Acquisition, Bilingualism: Language and Cognition and Lingua, among others.

Professor Slabakova is sure to make a valuable contribution to our research and teaching activities.
