Mr James A Corbet BA, MA
ESRC South Coast DTP PhD candidate in heritage language acquisition
James Corbet is a Postgraduate Research Student in Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Southampton. He researches the development of grammar in Spanish heritage speakers raised in the United Kingdom, in a project funded by the ESRC South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership.
After obtaining a First Class honours degree in French and Spanish with Linguistics from Southampton, I worked as an English teacher in France and then as a graduate trainee in the Church of England before returning to the University to embark upon postgraduate studies. My MA was in Applied Linguistics for Research, with a specific focus on Language Acquisition, a passion I developed during my undergraduate course. I am now working on a PhD project in which I am investigating the development of aspectual meaning in Spanish past tenses by Spanish-English bilinguals in the United Kingdom.
